Cut Types

Use the cut type appropriate for the material you are using, the pattern shape, and the purpose or use of your project.

Half Cut

Use the Half Cut to cut adhesive-backed material, typically adhesive craft vinyl. This cuts the material but leaves the backing layer of paper or film, so you can peel the shape off the backing.

You can use the Half Cut both with and without using a mat.

Perforation Cut

Use the Perforation Cut when you want to cut a perforated or “dotted” line that can be manually punched removed from your material. This cut type is suitable for cutting large patterns.

Combine the Perforation Cut with the Half Cut to make stickers, and the machine cuts each pattern so it remains adhered to its backing and can be peeled later. In addition, materials such as paper can be cut without using a cutting mat so that the cutouts do not come loose during cutting.

You can use the Perforation Cut without using a mat.

Full Cut

Use the Full Cut when you want a complete cut of any shape from your material, whether it has one layer or two. This cut type is suitable for cutting small and intricate patterns.

You must use a mat when making Full Cuts.
