Send a Fax Manually

Manual fax transmission lets you hear the dialling, ringing and fax-receiving tones while sending a fax.

MFC-J4340DW

  1. Load your document.
  2. To listen for a dial tone, pick up the handset of the external telephone.
  3. Dial the fax number using the external telephone.
  4. When you hear fax tones, press Mono Start or Colour Start.
    • If you are using the scanner glass, press image to send a fax.
  5. Replace the handset of the external phone.

MFC-J4440DW/MFC-J4540DW

  1. Load your document.
  2. To listen for a dial tone, pick up the handset of the external telephone.
  3. Dial the fax number using the external telephone.
  4. When you hear fax tones, press image and then press [Fax Start].
    • If using the scanner glass, press [Send].
  5. Replace the handset of the external phone.
